Diesel Electric Propulsion and Power Plants.

Faulty RPM governors or generator voltage regulators (AVR`s) have caused several total blackouts on dieselelectric plants.Such blackouts can be catastrophic if occuring onboard Dynamic Positioned offshore vessels eg. Diving,DP-drilling, well stimulation etc. Dieselelectric power plants have in the past become more common also within traditional shipping. Independent what sector of shipping,a total blackout might cause a disaster.

MultiControl services with over 35 years of experience with management, maintenance and upgrading of diesel electric power plants onboard dynamic positioned offshore vessels.MCS have developed a solution for the above mentioned problems.

This solution have been in operation onboard two of Stolt Offshore (today Subsea7) Class III (autro) DP vessels for over 11 years. The solution is approved by DNV.DNV During this period one of these vessels have experienced Governor/AVR problems four times which each could have caused total blackout with standard design. ·  Two of these incidents resulted in half blackout and the operation was terminated in a safe way. ·  The other two incidents didn’t interfear with the operation at all. MCS has managed a number of different projects as consultant for Stolt Offshore ships management division.(today Subsea7) Links:
